help doing basic cleaning

i have started a collection and i went crazy...over 3 months i bought 35 radios..i needed a hobby for when my 2 teenagers go off to college & i am left at home...i have always loved old dogs old people and old radios...so now what i would like to know is how to go about cleaning up the boards inside..i have a very basic understanding of electronics so i know enough not to destroy the tubes/capacitors/resistors/main power supply unit however i want to know how to clean and remove rust from the inside of the units...is there a book maybe? i have a good friend that is an expert at radios and repair...i just want to augment his repairs by doing a complete cleaning Including cleaning the exteriors if plastic (and i actually have a few bakelite housings) Thank you for your help.
