Dead radio I restored: bad power plug!
Seems the outlet in Mom's bedroom didn't like the somewhat chewed up prong on the power plug on this radio, an Airline 83BR-502, I restored some years ago.
. Was a big clunky rubber grip plug, changed to to a more period piece ivory bakelite roundish plug, the sort used on lamps of the radio's era. I did make one prong a bit fatter to make it polarized. I soldered a piece of 18 AWG solid wire to the side of the prong, then filed it to shape it. This makes the very exposed in the back radio chassis directly connect to the Neutral, the radio's power switch is on the hot side (to the ballast and rectifier). This set used to be her father's.
