Early B&W television

Hi all. New guy here. I was referred here from the guys at audiokarma, after posting a thread about this old TV I'm getting from a friend in a few weeks when she moves.

I'm considering gutting it, and making a stereo stand out of it, much to the dismay of those who appreciate old television sets. I can appreciate the desire to preserve it, but I'm pretty hell bent on making a stereo stand out of it.

Anyway, I just wanted to post it here to see if anyone knows the approximate value of this, and to make sure I'm not destroying something rare or valuable.

I would also appreciate any advise on discharging caps etc. before I take it apart. Thanks in advance.
