I try to keep the leads as short as possible or as colse to the original length as I can.
Makeing the leads longer than original can introduce problems such as signals being capacitively or inductively coupled to places they shouldent be(through the leads), adjustments being thrown off, and increased chance of the component leads shorting to adjacent wireing.

That is my 0.02$.
