ceramic disc like resistor

hi all this motorola set i have has what looks exactly like a ceramic disc cap but it is a 220ohm 2 watt resistor and without it the set dont work at all i thought it may have been a thermistor but its not but only a resistor.this set had the leads twisted together for it to work but i cannot get this type of resistor so would a metal oxide type resistor be a good sub for this.the set works with the leads twisted together but dont know what it may effect in the set for the long run,a resistor like this is there for a reason and would like to put the equivalent back if possible. the old one is about 1 inch in diameter but it is burned. called moyers and i dont have a part number except the number on the old one but no listing of it. any ideas or heard of this resistor or what i could put in place but im not sure if i could use just a 220ohm 2 watt metal oxide 5% resistor in place because the size of the old one maybe like a 40%, i dont know.
