Zenith 7-D-127 tombstone
For years, I've wanted a black dial Zenith tombstone; but, none ever turned up locally and the internet ones were always too expensive for my blood. Two days ago, one of the flea markets that I do business with posted a picture of the following Zenith tombstone radio. They only posted a front shot and I asked the price. I was so overwhelmed with seeing a Zenith tombstone locally for sale that I agreed to take it once they told me the vendor wanted $75+tax. When I went to pick it up today, I noticed that it could have been a whole lot worse; but, it could have also been a whole lot better.
It's missing some tubes; which, I probably have or should be able to find. Also, there is some veneer damage along the bottom (at least it looks presentable from the front). So, the $80 and some change I paid for this was probably a little much; but, I wasn't going to back out after promising the guy that I'd buy it and after he'd stuck a sold sign on it. That was my fault for getting overly excited and not asking for more pictures. As someone who sells stuff, it burns me up when someone wants me to hold something and then they never pick the item up. Most of the flea markets that I deal with know I'm serious and it's not a problem when I ask them to hold something for me. At any rate, I still plan to restore it. I'll do the chassis myself. I may have to farm out the cabinet work. I must say that I didn't know that Zenith built a transformerless tombstone until I saw this radio. ![]() ![]() ![]()
