The shop I put in 25 years at was a Funai authorized service center. I fixed many of those. One very common problem was the LED under the mechanism and the optical prism that went up into the cassette when loaded and directed the light to the takeup and end sensors and also the reel sensors. There was a kit for that which included the sensor phototransistors but I never found one of those bad, just the LED. The prism would sometimes warp out of shape, or get broken off when someone would try to remove a tape that wouldn't eject
