These things are available, Type "Slide Variable Resistor" into google.com to begin
your search. I had to replace a sub miniature slide resistor on a answering
machine more than 10 years ago - they are available. Even if it is not
the exact one, you can find something that will come close enough
that you will have a reliable fix that might even allow it to
be reassembled and look correct. It might take looking
at a number of companies to figure out what brand
made the original.... or comes real close, even
if the pins don't fit the original holes. You
might even try Google, or Bing Image
Search, take a few "good" pictures
and upload it. Also try image
search for results and see
if you get a better match
there....
