The top of my head is coming off!
In a word, Yow!
I discovered this forum this morning and have gotten NO work done all day (and my boss just snuck up behind me!) I'm new at this hobby and already own two b/w consoles (neither of which work, by the way) and only have room for one. My guess is that it's going to get worse before it gets better! The first console is a totally cool blonde Olympic (forgot the model number) that I really want to work but it may not happen--giving the restoration guy too many headaches. My latest purchase (from Saturday) is an Emerson that may be able to be saved. I'm keeping my fingers crossed. Turns out the more posts I read, the more questions I have: 1. Where do you guys FIND all these cool sets? I've been looking over the b/w and color set photos and drooling like a halfwit! Why oh why couldn't this be a catalog instead of a forum (I'll take one of those, one of those, two of those...)? 2. Anyone in the Baltimore area good at restoring these vintage TVs? Frankly, I'm too ham-handed and nervous to be poking around high voltage and explosive picture tubes. 3. If not restoration, is there anyone who does color conversions? Besides Harry Poster, I mean. I know this must sound like sacrilege to most of you, but I'd rather have a non-original but working set than a large doorstop. 4. Should I have my head examined for starting up this hobby in the first place? Never mind--I think I already know the answer to that one! Am going to post pics of my babies as soon as I get a chance. Also need to post my wants--color consolette, preferably Silvertone but others considered. Need to scan a page from an old Sears Christmas catalog for the particulars. Okay. Going to TRY to do some work, but I'd say there's only about a 10% chance of that happening! |
