well sort of on topic: Heathkit GR-54

So... I was actually busy yesterday, cleaning and organizing in the basement. Even got rid of a few things (I'm trying!). Took some junk to the dump after lunch. Perused the swap pile... nothing great (plus, it was beginning to snow). Before I walked away, I saw a fellow walking up with a Heathkit GR-54. As he approached the swap pile, I saw him looking for a place to put it. "I can relieve you of that" said I. "Umm... I don't think it works" said he, sheepishly. "That's OK" said I, and home it came. I noticed that the knobs had been stripped from it.

Well, nope, it won't work. No tubes in it! I wonder if whoever stripped the knobs and the tubes thought there was more than $2 worth of old tubes in it? The knobs are probably worth something, but the tubes were a pretty ordinary lot. When I get some time, I'll go through the 'plinker' boxes in the basement and see if I can come up with a set of tubes for it. THe good news: it looks pretty good, and unmolested.

I like finding things like that, even though my wife was disappointed when I returned with something when I was supposed to be getting rid of stuff! Well, still a net outflow of junk from the basement yesterday.
