Loral TV?
Has anyone heard of the brand name Loral? They are still in biz and make all manner of hush hush military as well as commercial satellite stuff.
Reason I be asking is that when I was reading the history of the original Pong TV based game, it was mentioned that the inventor was working for them and was developing "the world's best television" This was 1951 so who knows what spectacular circuit designs that set may have had--I don't know if it even went into production. Even if it did, it surely was actually manufactured by another company as Loral wasn't set up for mass production nor retail marketing and distribution. But perhaps they licensed or sold the design, and maybe their name was used. I dunno, just guessing here....but I find these sorts of "lost history" fascinating and always like to try to put the bits together. To whit: the old Checker cab company had a signed contract with Chrysler to build V8 engines for them (they were and still are a major vendor to the industry). At the last moment Chrysler pulled the plug, Checker sued and won. No one ever knew why Chrysler did this. I fingered it out on my own. Am convinced this was due to Studebaker closing up. The had fairly modern engine machine tooling and it was sold off for pennies on the dollar. Guess who bought it all? Yep. And as Paul Harvey would say "And now you know the........rest of the story" Anthony (wasting time and bandwidth) |
