Yes, you are all right!

Not to get off on a rant, but I guess am one of the "bad" guys for getting freaking irritated that fine, vintage electronics are being shipped out of here never to be seen again. It's not like there is an abundance of these sets left and I think it stinks that this set is destined to live in a socialistic riot zone.

You know, while we are at it, let's just go ahead and ship all the quality American built products overseas, just like the rest of the manufacturing in this country and leave the garbage imported products here. That just sounds great. Goodness knows there is little of nothing built to resemble a quality product these days.

If this opinon makes me "evil" in the eyes of some, so be it. I wouldn't be any happier if it went to England, Canada, Mexico or any other country.

Referring to Yagosaga's post: It seems to me that to say that France would fare any better from the so called climate collapse (last time I checked the myth of "Global Warming" was just that, Global) just for an argument of preservation's sake is hardly a relevant argument.

Everyone has an opinion and I respect that. However, I sit up and take notice when I and others are essentially told not to voice our opinions or scolded for voicing our opinions for the sake of feelings of the so called greater good. Seems to me the right of expression is what the free world fought to protect. Perhaps the free world is much smaller than I was raised to believe.

Just my opinion. Now back to the regularly scheduled programming.

Sadly, RCAChild, it's just that TV collecting has become another "Sport of Kings", just like vintage cars did long ago. I was so angry when my offer wasn't taken seriously on a fine old Cadillac 25+ years ago .
I realize it's hard not to be jealous of those with money elsewhere in the world, but don't let those bloody frogs (British humor) become a magnet for your emotions. Or global warming for that matter. These are subjects for another forum. I am so saddened by all the nice folks who head for this site with a belly-full of talking points from rant radio. Remember, there isn't a dime's worth of difference between the two U.S. political parties, and they both pay outfits like FOX or AirAmerica big bucks to sway you their way!

To be quite honest, it is not a matter of money jealousy, although, yes, I would have loved to have been able to own this set.

I just simply expressed my disgust at that set being removed from the U.S. and my further irritation for being chided for making that expression.

I know I cannot save all the sets (as my better half keeps reminding me) and as much as I would like to. I just hate to see those rare pieces of American electronics history leave. If the U.S. was a war torn country or people here were on rampage to destroy all of the historical items of this country, that would be another issue and of course I would want those things saved. But that isn't the issue. I know these radios, tv's, tape decks, etc hardly compare to a Ming vase or to a bust of George Washington, but they are part of a technological evolution that was truly brought to fruition here in the States, fueled the world and is truly part of American history.

That is my frustration and irritation with that set leaving the States. As far as it belonging to a frenchman, that is irrelavent. I just wish it was a frenchman in the States.

I have been a member of AudioKarma for some time and often enjoy reading the discussions that take place. Not this one. Some of the pathetic jingoistic comments listed above about people in other countries have moved me to make my first contribution (I am not afraid to speak my mind either).

Television technology belongs to the world. It was developed and is still being developed in many countries across the globe. The UK, USA, Germany, France, Russia, Japan etc.

Surely the main point is that this technology is preserved and celebrated. I’m just glad that there are people who have the space, time and money to look after this stuff. I wish I did.

To disrespect people in other countries and to speak about them in pejorative terms is just plain ignorant. Please get back to the subject of discussing these wonderful old TV sets. How is that for free speech!
