Difference between 17RP4 and 17LP4?

My SAMS TV tube swap book says that they do not swap. Looking at the Sylvania tube data sheets. Says that they are identical except for the amount of light transmittance.

BLUF: Do they swap and is this a good swap?

I just got a Motorola for a song with a busted 17RP4.

I noticed that the RP4 has a spherical faceplate and the LP4 has a cylindrical faceplate. I guess this would not hurt for swapping purposes. Just a bit different in frontal apearance.

My RCA tube book lists 17VP4 as an equivalent to a 17LP4.
