NARC swap meet Emerson model 425 radio
I ran across a swap meet that was going on in St. Paul today and thought I would check it out. I found this little Emerson model 425 5 tube superheterodyne radio. I works very well but has a slight hum. I did a little research and it looks like it is a late 1941 pre-war model made in New York. Now it looks like I might have a thing for old table radios too. What have I got myself into? It's so cute I couldn't pass it up.

Kewl ! Get some new caps put in to take care of the hum, a good cleaning/polishing, & you're all set !

Great find! Whats rare is the fact this one still has its original back. Most of radios from this time frame are missing their backs. Nice radio. It will play real well once its recapped.

I know it's nothing spectacular but I like the small dimensions and nice basic design. I did some searching and found a few pictures of this model but none with this particular washboard grill.
It looks to be in very nice original condition. A few scuffs here and there but not bad. I took the back off and the screw for the antennae. Just a few dust bunnies and everything on the inside looks in nice original shape too. It's hard to believe it has all the original push pins for the back also. It's been a buisy fall and is finally slowing down. Now it looks like I will have time to recap this and my Arkay amp I bought a while back. |

I love the control description on the back- a precursor to operators manuals! That Emerson will look awesome on your mantel DD!
