The problem with one I repaired was the shaft need some lube where it went through the bushing on the tuner.

Chris,

As far as the noisy push buttons go, yes you can use contact cleaner or tuner cleaner. Spray the contacts on each switch and work the buttons in order to let the cleaner cover the contacts. Very common problem.

Good luck on the mechanical problem. Some of the German radios have very intricate mechanisms. Hope you get yours squared away.
