Yes, they DID use spring reverbs... friend has one.

If the delay line in these consoles was a mechanical arrangement with springs, then where does the "Vibrasonic" control on the stereo component's front panel figure into the system? Hmmm. The only thing I can come up with is that the control adjusted the gain of an amplifier located between the delay line and the speakers.
