Sony KP-5020
I posted this question in the appropriate forum, Dollars and Sense without any success so I'll just ask it again here without inquiring about value.
Does anyone in the TV collector circles know whether the Sony KP-5020 projection TV has any collectibility? |

Honestly, it's too new to be of interest to most TV collectors. That was a great set, and I fixed a lot of them in the 80s. If the original screen is still in good shape, and/or if it still has the felt dust cover for the screen, and maybe some paperwork, channel tabs, original remote, etc., a Sony collector will probably want it at a reasonably price, maybe $50-$100, and will put it away for later. If it's just a decent-condition old set, then probably it wouldn't have much value. Sadly, a typical big-screen from the 80s or 90s goes for around $30 on Craigslist, and often winds up in the Free column a few weeks later.

He has everything including both OEM boxes, bill of sale, & all the paperwork. I don't have any room for it otherwise I'd take it off his hands. It's a classic and in beautiful condition but like you said, who else but a collector would want it? the pedastal makes a great coffee table.

Since it's in MN, I can't see any practical way to get it out here to California, or I'd find a place to keep it. This may sound goofy, but in the event that time runs out, could the boxes be carefully collapsed and packed up with all of the plastic bags, paperwork, etc., and be offered up for sale without the TV and screen? Those items are rare, whereas the TV really isn't the big issue. But again, that's only a last resort in case the TV has to go to Goodwill or Salvation Army. Here's hoping it will stay in 1 piece and go to a collector! Charles

What a coincidence! Someone just listed a KP-7220 in the local area. I'll have to watch to see if it moves.
