Its not uncommon to unhook the old electrolytics and wire in modern pieces. I have a '39 Philco console that had 2 of the 3 main filter caps removed from the chassis, and replacements wired in sometime in the mid 1950s.

What about the transformers or say the volume control? Is this something that would be impossible to get a reproduction part?
