Interesting-- I very briefly owned the type of TV you're talking about, a KTV 1210CLR (if I remember the model number correctly).
I had bought it at a thrift store in Upper Michigan to use for DXing while staying at a cabin for two weeks, cost was $5.
I thought the design of the set was from the clear appliance fad of the early 1990's (I had seen tons of clear telephones, 5" TVs, and personal cassette players in stores).
At the end of the vacation, I had no room in the car for the set, I gave it to the cabin manager, who tossed it. The following year, I found out at the thrift store that the sets had come from a prison in town that had recently closed.
I kinda wish I could have kept the set. Somewhat of an oddity, besides it's clear cabinet, it was a black-and-white with a cable-ready electronic tuner!

I myself own a Zenith branded set that's a translucent green color. this sees daily use in my workshed. Paid $5 for it at a flea market.
