I am always amazed by what these sets can do, especially considering the technology they have to work with. This one looks great-makes any old show worth watching! I need to pull mine out and see why the HV died...

Boy, that chassis looks great. I bet that you had to be careful with those old circuit boards. I have a CTC-5, but it hasn't shown a picture in years.

This is in reply to Tomcomm's question about the picture tube: It is original and it has not been regunned. Attached are two pictures that I took as a part of the survey of the set when I first received it, hence the dirt! One of the shots was made while I was testing the tube with the Sencore CR-70. I was more concerned with the filaments than with the tube's ID number - so the focus is on the filaments. The tube scored very well during the test with no fall-off in estimated life!

The "NBC" ID is clearly visible below the "21AXP22A". (You were right about the "A".)

Maybe I missed it, but which model CTC-5 is this?
The NBC label on the tube neck may mean that this picture tube and chassis may have had special attention during construction. Perhaps it was used as a studio monitor back in the day.

Steve D.: The chassis is a CTC-5U. It's the "Deluxe" model.

Ralph,

Thanks for the info that it is a CTC-5U Deluxe series. It could be ether the "Strathmore" or the "Chandler" full door cabinet model. This rules out it being a studio monitor and perhaps was for an NBC exec. Could you post a picture of the set?

Thanks,
-Steve D.

Just to bring up a point Steve and I had speculated on in the past --brought up by the interesting 'NBC' on the 21AXP22A. The unusual preface 'B111' to CT-100 serial numbers (only a handful are known, the bulk begin with B800) may be associated with 'special handling and performance' for networks. I can document one B111 CT-100 (caretakership of Bob Galanter) that goes back deep into CBS in Manhattan in the 1950's.

Perhaps someone can confirm or debunk.

Pete
