Hey everyone,
At long last I’ve gotten the chance to do some work on this set. I brought up the line voltage slowly on a variac while listening for any strange sounds after a thorough cleaning and re-cap of the chassis. At 90 volts I had a raster after the thermal switch clicked in. Once up to 115 volts a little tweaking here and there and I was rewarded with the picture below. Still a way to go to get optimum picture quality but hey, I’m happy so far. As I said in my original post, this is my first color set. I have the service literature but there are a number of things I’m unfamiliar with when it comes to setup. The color sets I serviced in the late 70’s were way different than this jewel. For good measure I’ve installed new focus rectifier, HO, damper, HV rectifier and regulator tubes along with a few others as needed. The purity and convergence look pretty good considering that the focus is still a little soft with no range of the control left. Same goes for the drive control. Still a line in the picture at the end of the control range. I suspect there may be some resistors off value as I’ve not checked those yet. After running for about 30 minutes the left side of the raster was pulled in about ½ inch and HV regulation wasn't too good. Fortunately there were no red plates in the HO or damper tubes. I’ll spend this weekend delving deeper into these issues so hopefully I’ll have more news soon.
