The Sony Videoscope screen, Advent screen and the Kodak Ektalite screen have a forward gain of 13! The screen material is the backside of aluminum foil.

It means that if you view from directly in front of the screen, it is 13 times brighter than a flat painted white wall (diffuse or non-directional screen). But if you move off axis, it gets much dimmer than a non-directional screen.
