Zenith royal R

Well here is my 53 Zenith royal R on the bench. Recapped it last week and had trouble getting Hv. A little support from Antique Radio forum and I found the problem. A wire under a star washer. Oops. And a picture from tvhistory showing what it looks like. The bottom photo I timed wrong when I clicked the shutter.

I have about 10.5 kv and the schematic says it should be 14.5. this is the best I could get so far. Any thoughts?

Weird...my done post didn't show. O well here it is! I know there are some hum bars in the first two pics from the modulator I was using. You can hardly see them. the 3rd pic had a different source. The horizontal line is from the camera but what is the vertical block on the left? You can usually only see it with a dark screen or when they go to black.

That's a nice little Zenith! And that groovy lamp on the right... that's the bomb!! If I'm not mistaken, I think I've heard the guys say that vert line with the lighter area to the left in the last photo means the horz drive needs to be turned down a just a tad. If I'm wrong, someone speak up. I've got some black and white sets that do the exact same thing.

drive line, like the above post says. Sometimes you need to trade out the horiz. sweep tubes to get rid of it.

I will give that a try because it's starting to bug me. The set has been working great otherwise. Tonight we are watching the 3 stooges on it.
