I've played with GEs like this.

Usually the smaller electrolytic coupling and bypass caps dry out and lose capacitance. Also those slide switches on the circuit board get very dirty easily. You may need to clean them more. The transistors usually don't go bad. The fact that you got AM to work means that the audio output and such is working.
