I think your offer is fair. I'd probably top out at $15. These can be good playing sets.
Odd look to that crt-shaped more like something from the late 60s/early 70s.

Anyone know what CRT is used in this set?

The CRT is either a 21ZP4 or a 20CP4.

That is a beautiful set. Is the cabinet wood or metal? I love Philco products. I only have two of their radios, a 37-610 tombstone and a Bakelite PT-2 or whatever the post war model number of that is. There are several Philco models I like but have never seen that one before. Looks like a good restoration candidate.

The guy that called me said the cabinet was wood. Almost looks like a painted finish in the pictures, though. Possibly the sides are even masonite material. I find the gold surround overpowering to the basic style of the cabinet, but that's just personal opinion.

I have never seen the gold bezel on these early (51-54) Philcos before, always a pale grey-green that matches the phosphor color pretty well....perhaps the set was upgraded to a larger tube at some time, and a new bezel was installed, or perhaps a little spray can "customizing" ?
jr Edit add; The extra holes in the back are for the optional UHF tuner that could be installed in the center of the control panel. It could be configured to use a separate antenna, or leads could be be connected so that one antenna could be switched to either tuner. Leads for that switching were brought out to the back of the set, for convience of the antenna installer. Also the leads from the built-in antenna usually came out through one of the holes....lots of connections! jr Last edited by jr_tech; 01-22-2011 at 02:57 PM. Reason: add note on antenna connections |

My wife went and picked the TV up for me cus it was only 5 or so miles down the road from where she works. The guy had agreed to my $10 offer. Anyhow...it turns out she felt sorry for the guy and gave him a $5 tip.
Silly girls. So now I'm into this TV for 50% over budget. The insides look pretty clean. The Philco 21WP4 tests strong. I seriously don't need this one, so if someone is within driving distance you're more than welcome to it. I pretty much had to take it or it was going to get chopped up. ![]() Kevin Last edited by Kevin Kuehn; 01-26-2011 at 09:16 PM. |
