The nickel sleeves were the same, the coating they sprayed on had different properties, formulations, at the time.
The bad thing doing business with a giant corporate conglomerate, is they could not care less about the little guy.
It's worse today, at least then they would give you a courtesy call and tell you they are ceasing production of your most popular item. (That's not what she said, that's what she meant. She said "we are not selling to you any more because the corporate office said so." )
Today, they don't do any thing outside the corporate box.

I had an '85 Magnavox 19" set - digital tuning, not cable ready. It saw daily use from 1985 until 2003 I think. The automatic fine tuning wouldn't center on the station, so I put it in storage. Got damaged when some shelving collapsed so I put it on the curb. The CRT was just as good after 17 years as when it was new.

My Grandmother had a BPC Magnavox cable ready set with a very simple remote from 1989-2004. One of my aunts bought her a new set when that one went dead, but the CRT was strong in that one also.

The tubes in Magnavox portables after 1980 were manufactured by RCA and Zenith. NAP would have imported all of their tubes from overseas if they could. At that time TV manufacturers were not allowed to import any tubes over 19V inches. Most of the tubes in Magnavox 25 inch sets from the 80's were manufactured by Zenith Rauland.
Most 13" tubes in Mag portables were Japanese and Taiwan imports.
Later when the companies were sold or bought by Foreign based corporations, tubes were assembled in USA using electron guns assembled overseas.
In the 90's, the law must have been repealed, all the sets over 27" had tubes from overseas.
All the domestic manufacturers already knew about the transition to flat screens and digital broadcasting.

The other day, I junked a 25" '97 Sharp that had an EIA 312 (Sylvania) CRT in it. I also have the 27" version of that same set and that one has a bonded yoke tube, like what's in the majority of Thomson era RCA sets from the '90's. I've seen that same bonded yoke CRT used in JVC and some late '90's Zenith's.
