Atwater Kent model 42 Question on Speaker

I didn't suspect any problem with the speaker (which is the original with the set). I only disassembled it because I still have a child-like curiosity about what's inside things. I just happened to notice the possible flaw when looking at the photo.

All the similar models I've seen have a sort of floral-looking gizmo for the grill. This (model 37) may have preceded that type of grill, and may be the first model that didn't have a horn speaker.

Well it's real cool.

I was going to dig out the SD (schematic drawing (old telephone company lingo)) for it and take a look at what you've got there. Love that old "quality" of building stuff. Care was taken with each radio, and not stamped out and boxed up... and out the door.
