Prewar sets at Bonhams
There is a Baird T5, Marconiphone 703, HMV 900 and 904 at auction at Bonhams in London on May 3. Anyone know whose sets these are?

Radiolot (Laurence Fisher) is NOT the seller. He is an employee of Bonhams who is in charge of sales of this sort. In particular he arranged the sale of the Bennett-Levy collection a couple of years ago. This was the largest collection of early TV ever to come to market.
AFAIK all of these sets were previously unknown to us. I will probably be going to the viewing on 29th April and will try to ask Laurence more about the provenance.

The T-3 sold for 27,500 British pounds including commissions. $44,401 USD. It is one of the earliest via the 7 knobs on the front. I believe the center 7th knob is the Baird/EMI standards switch. That did not last long and the center knob vanished soon as the EMI standard won the race. My set is the 6 knob version and the cabinet is not as functional without the large doors below. Just the smaller doors.
A HMV 900 sold for 6250 pounds/$10,091 and a Marconiphone 703 sold for 6875 pounds/$11,100.

I went to the viewing and the T5 was in very nice untouched condition. GBP27500 is a new price record for a TV y a large margin. I think the previous high price was about GBP18000 for a "one off" Baird set at the Bennett-levy auction.
Not surprisingly, Laurence won't give details of the origins of these sets but he strongly implies that these are attic/barn/cellar finds. Looks like 3 of the 4 sets are heading over the Atlantic. Any of you guys guilty of buying them? The little HMV904 with broken CRT went to a UK collector for about GBP3200.

Two of these sets were at a previous Bonhams auction. The other two were "new" finds.
There have been higher prices paid for U.S. sets. A RCA rr-359 sold for around $50,000 a few years ago.
