What Projects did you bring back from ETV Convention?

I said I did not want a "troublesome" TV after restoring my GE 805 Locomotive ... so I brought back a Philco 48-2500 Projection TV and a Ratheon M-1601 Porthole TV.

I have an affection for Porthole TVs and now kinda excited about doing a vintage Projection TV. The ETV Museum has the exact same model as the one I purchased and is unrestored like mine and in similar condition - i.e. scratches, dirty, cobwebs - see attached.

I wonder what I am getting into.

That Raytheon is even more "Mondo Bizarro" looking than the Zeniths...Reminds me of that "Outer Limits" episode "O.B.I.T." But I'd have it in a heartbeat, as I LIKE old "Mondo Bizarro" stuff...(grin)

I had no room in the overhead storage on a RJ flight so I brought home many memories and more knowledge.

I lost count of the number of times various CT100 chassis were flipped around to get a pix on the prototype 15GP22 to show an image. The donors should be thanked for their allowing their chassis to be used. And the great 6BK4/6DB4 pin wiring discovery is a help to all of us.

I have help and leads coming on my RCA 1" tape deck and my quest for Akai 1/4" color tape decks. Not very historic in years but an interest of mine.

The auction was a field of dreams with the amount of quality and historic sets sold. Maybe a Meissner would have fit overhead. After the auction I talked to Chuck Azar about the Col-R-Tel attached to a Moto. Chuck used to sell the Col-R-Tel attached to the same Moto in his past days as a Moto dealer. He advised that the Moto is a perfect set for the Col-R-Tel and we are now looking at my moving my Col-R-Tel from a Philco to my twin of the Moto in the sale. Stand by.

The seminars were a world of information and education. CPA, Technicolor, color gamuts, Zenith, Jerome calling in on a hold-the-phone-to-the-mic update (broadcasting in 1963), and all the others. Each year brings new information as we move forward and our kind tries to keep ahead of the curve of lost information.

The 48-2500 is really quite an easy chassis to get running, fixing the cabinet on the other hand, lets just say mine isn't finished after about two or three years of trying, it's a Blond though and they are so much more difficult to make look right.

The Raytheon should be a piece of cake, I've done a 12" set with that chassis and it's quite easy to work on, it has a continuous slug type tuner I'm guessing?

I love that big forward mounted tube on that one!

I brought home a Philco 50-T1430. I've heard it's one of the better 12 inch sets from the era, and I figure it will provide me with something fun to putz with.

I need some asprin, my back hurts.

Although we didn't quite get it working correctly, we learned a whole lot about the prototype tube and how it works. I already ordered a pair of 25 meg and 100 meg high voltage resistors to try in my CT-100 chassis, and John is sending his high voltage power supply to aid my efforts. You can read more in the proto set thread, as I make the updates.

There was a Meissner kit that sold in the auction with original schematics and some spare parts. I don't know names of every one here so I couldn't tell you who bought it, but I do know that the buyer got it for a good price. My wife commented that he couldn't stop smiling after he won the auction.

I believe the person who got the Meissner prewar was Geoff who is with the Huntington West Virginia Radio and Television museum. He personally purchased the TV but will have it on loan to the West VA radio/tv museum.

I was approached after losing the two Colortel Color Wheel auctions by a guy who had a third one complete with all electronics in his car. I purchased the one he had. I got an Olympic Duplicator TV monitor from the silent auction. I believe tv is vision only. These TVs were used by tv stations and hotels.

The color-tel I got included a copy of the color-tel manual with schematics and other brochures sent to the owner in Apr 1957 so my color-tel is at least that old.

Well along with all of the knowledge from the presenters, and the good times with friends. I came back with the following.

A B&K 465 CRT Tester that works
A RCA WR-59C Sweep generator, have not tested but looks good
A RCA EAR057S TV/Clock/Radio works good and includes the often missing sunshade, now to just clean all the nicotine off of it...
A Sony TV-700U 7" B&W set that went unloved at the silent auction and i bought on sunday.

And the BIG score (for me at least, others could care less) An RCA TK-86 ENG/EFP camera form 1981 or so. Complete with 14:1 Canon zoom lens, Viewfinder, RCA power supply and special power cable as the TK-86 did NOT use a standard 4 pin XLR but a male 3 pin XLR.

Looking forward to 2013 already, along with the updates on everyones projects!

Although I didn't buy it at the convention, I did bring a CT-100 back from the ETF convention that Steve was kind enough to transport from Wisconsin for me.

I will leave the chassis as is until I get the CRT rebuilt or find a good one.

Congratulations on getting a Col-R-Tel.

For you and anyone else that got the other two, I have some good technical information about them I'll be glad to email to you.

There are a couple of simple and inexpensive factory recommended
add-ons that will help improve the pictures you can get from these converters.

PM me and I'll get them to you.
