Zenith HiFi HF1284D rescued - needs record player
I left my "wanted - dead or alive" poster with pics of a 58 color RCA, 48 BW and Motorola HiFi at the local Habitat ReStore.
A kitchen contractor wanted to drop this off with the usual stuff they donate. The manager told him it looked too rough and then gave him my number. What a partner in crime! I had no idea what it was but it "had tubes" that was enough for me.This is what I saw when I went to pick it up. HF1284D-1.jpg easily cleaned up HF1284D-2.jpg finish restorable ![]() HF1284D-3.jpg R/P missingThis 1958 model has two 6V6 for outputs and has a fully-sealed speaker compartment. I did not get in there yet. Wondering what the presence control does if there is only one output transformer. ![]() The bad news is the record player is missing. I have several stereo units (2-mags/colaro, 1 Emerson Glaser-steers, 1-1978 VofM) that would fit but it needs only be mono and Zenith. |

Pretty sure I have a Zenith TT in the boneyard, I'll see what it is and get back to you. I think it says Tonal 1 on the arm, but I can't remember anything else about it or where it came from.

Great, if you're interested in a ship-trade, the ones I have are stereo. I even have a 1970 Zenith TT also. All of them are complete but need something I'm sure.

Those used a Voice of Music built changer with the cobra tonearm. I picked up a '57 model that's in a different cabinet; but, the dial and controls are the same.
Here's mine and what the record changer should look like: ![]()

Okey dokey. Doesn't look like the one pictured above, anyway, and I'm reasonably sure it came out of a discarded console, but not of that age. Probably something 60s-70s. Wondered whether I should even keep it - is the Tonal 1 any good at all?

Presence will be your midrange tone control. Brings out vocalists, etc.

Most are good, as long as they work! GE, bought out Glaser-Steers, in the mid 60's.

I,m going to transplant and build a slide-out for this Zenith changer, though its from a 1970 console I had to part out.Attachment 176547
BTW, I am in the housecall repair business again, going later today to look at a 1965 RCA console's record player. all you need to do is fix something old for someone (usually much older) and the calls just come in, even years later.
