Did try retuning the LO for better pic but didn't yield much of a good result. Did however notice that as I increased the volume the bars got more intense. Got to thinking that perhaps that the audio output stage needed more bypassing. So I hung a 20mf cap from the bottom end of the output transformer to the chassis. That did the trick. Now the pic is nice and clean of the bars. Still has a little bit sync buzz but is negligible.

ps Originally I was thinking that it maybe the same sort of issue Bob and Phil where talking about on their Admiral sets that cause the low volume problem. The 4.5MC If being badly out of tune/ bad mica inside the can.
