1948 ADMIRAL 19A11-SN Table Top 7

I went and picked up this set along with the matching radio for $155 which was a 40 min drive each way to get home to find out the 7JP4 is pretty much dead even though the ad says it's good.. My Sencore CR70 doesn't have the set up for a 7JP4 or I would have brought my tester. Was able to locate the page on the internet and test it when I got home.. It's listed as a scope tube.. I called the guy and he said he has no problem me returning the items.. .I've been through hell over high waters to deal with another set with a dead picture tube..

Any feedback would be good...

Undamaged 19A11 cabinets are harder to find than good 7JP4s IMO. I'd hang on to it.

Hum, I'm was thinking about maybe showing up to the guys house and tell him I'll still take it, if you want to give me some of my money back.. I forgot to mention the Channel knob is totally cracked in the the middle almost all the way through, probably due to the tuner..

Not very much help on here.. I just called the guy and he said there is another person that was interested in them for the same price.. So he won't come down on the set.. Would anyone else spend $155 on one of these with a dead picture tube? I'm torn on weather I should keep them or return them..

Unless you get very lucky you're probably looking at another $150 for a good 7JP4.
I'd probably return it but then again I have too many projects and I am tired of the constant hunt for parts.

Good 7JP4 on eBay:

Ya, I saw that 7JP4.. I think $155 for the set and another $150 Is a bit much, plus the price in caps and other parts... I keep looking at the thing and my heart says to keep it, and my mind tells me to take it back, due to the costs, or it will never get done and just sit in storage..

You could get lucky on the CRT....A few weeks ago I got a good spare 7JP4 at a antique radio/Ham swap meet donation auction for 1$!

Well so far I haven't returned the TV.. I think that picture tube in that Ebay link is a bit high for someone who hasn't mentioned about any emissions.. It's even mentioned in the auction that it's not as bright as the on that's in that set he's testing it with.. Also looks like it's from a collector...

There are few testers designed to work with the 7JP4. One rare early postwar model, the Sencore CR-70 and it's successor are all that come to mind.

The most common way to test them among collectors is to use a working 7JP4 based set which are several times more common than a compatible tester.

Add Jackson Model 707 Dynamic Cathode Ray Tube Tester and the Precision (PACO) CR-30 CRT tester to the list.

I picked up a nice Precision CR-30 for myself at the last WARCI meet! (Thanks Jay V.)

I have two CR-70 CRT testers. One is here in MD and I have moved the other to FL. I just checked and the one that is here doesn't have the settings for testing the 7JP4. So, if you want I can check when I go down on 7 July if you want. I know that one has the settings.

Thanks for looking it up Bob. If I had my other Sencore, I would have been able to look it up. Glad you could help another member...

Keep it! Still kicking myself sometimes for not picking up the Apple II (Plus?) that I didn't want to spend so much on, which was probably about 17 years ago. Then there was the other one not that long after (could have been the same one as one branch of that thrift shop eventually closed), that I passed over in favor of a IIe when I should have bought both. Grrr. Haven't seen one locally since.
