are the dial cord pulleys attached to the cabinet as well, or just the plate the needle rides on? if the latter, you can probably gently lift the needle off the plate as you lift the chassis out... try removing the chassis bolts and see if it comes out easily.

IIRC, the pointer stays on the plate that in rides on. Just unclip the dial cord from the pointer. Close the tuning gang completely and mark the location of the pointer, for easy reassembly.
