DuMont 103

Finally was able to get over to my storage facility and get a better look at my Doghouse set.

Does not look too bad. Everything appears to be there, except for the knobs, dial glass and a good CRT. Other than that, chassis looks unmolested with only a few old repairs that I could spot. I did see a 6AL5 tube mounted horizontally UNDER the chassis. Interesting! Wonder what that's all about?? Bit of moldy dust on all the wires, any suggestions on how to clean that off?

I stripped down the cabinet of all hardware to bring it home and work on it. This little set is growing on me . . .

That cabinet looks pretty good. Just a light rubbing with Howards going with the grain and some 0000 steel wool should do it. Careful over the decals.

Check all of the wire wound resistors. Weak spot on these DuMonts.

The 6AL5 under the chassis is a mystery, although it looks factory.

I have to grab the schematic and take a look at the situation with that 6AL5 under the chassis. Sure does look factory, but seems like a VERY inconvenient place to put a tube.

It could be the tube for the B+ delay relay.
