By "scrolls vertically" do you mean the set looses vertical sync, or the picture looses centering. Does it do this with other sets?
If your using an RF modulator you may want to try a different external one of a different brand....If you over drive or under drive the video modulator with video (many designs don't give the ability to adjust that out) the set may not extract the proper sync levels from the signal to retain vertical lock under all conditions. Sets that predate full solid-state signal chains tend to be especially susceptible to this issue.

Yeah. 1985 tv and a system that didn't come out till 89. TV doesn't handle the Rf modulation. Try using a playstation 1 on an older zenith. What fun.
