The cameras are Marconi Mk VII, one of the first generation British and European colour cameras. They used 4x 30mm Plumbicon tubes. The 4 tube camera, with a separate tube for luminance, was ultimately a dead end. The only other camera that did this was the contemporary EMI 2001. The other first generation Plumbicon colour camera was the Philips PC60 which was 3 tube.
For the first time, the Plumbicon tube allowed a high quality colour camera that wasn't enormous. The Marconi Mk VII was widely used in the USA. The PC60 was also sold in the USA under the Norelco brand. At the BECG we have number of Marconi Mk VII in good order. We use them mainly with our "Southern" OB truck. https://becg.org.uk/projects/southern-television/ The photo shows "Southern" at an event in Birmingham in 2019. We were celebrating 50 years of colour on the UK's main BBC1 and ITV channels. We went live on-air on ITV news using Southern. Last edited by ppppenguin; 09-20-2021 at 01:45 AM. |
