I've reattached the yoke shims and gotten the geometry a little better than what the video shows, but corner convergence is still off. Can it be improved? Or is this an unwinnable game like the war in Vietnam?

A current video would be better. Based on the video, the horizontal is out evenly across the raster, so that should be fixable.
The corners also might have a service menu adjustment, should say in the manual.
If it doesn't, or you can't get far enough, that's what they make those strips with magnets on the ends. Can buy them on ebay if you want to try getting it any better.
