She's a runner!!!

Well I recieved all the replacement parts Friday for the ctc-16, got finished with it today, inspected my work, and re installed the chassis, powered up the set and voilla! What a picture!!! I went ahead and swapped out all three 27k 2W R-y B-y g-y grid resistors and x and z demod plate resistors, all were out of tolerance or open. Swapped out all wax caps, and replaced a few orange drops. This set looks better than my Chromacolor II!!! Oh yeah, the 21FJP22 reads great and within 15% between red green and blue! Found a few out of tolerance resistors for the 2nd video IF as well which explaind the video smearing. Vertical was wonky due to a faulty 150k resistor between the vert height and lin pots and the cardboard axial lytic cap on the vertical sweep board. Not enough blue screen caused by a faulty 100k 1W resistor for the blue screen pot. found the same for red screen as well... The raster on this set is exceptionally bright and very well focused, I spent a few hours tweakin the screens and bias to get a great greyscale, then used my B&K on crosshatch and finnesed the convergence to near perfect. I really appreciate all you guys help as I battled this monster! It's deffenatly rewarding! Shoot, it's got such an awesome picture that im using it at the moment to play my XBOX!

I'm glad too that you managed to get it working. I had been wondering whether or not you would.

Here's to hoping it runs another 50 years!

I always thought the 16 was one of the best pictures around. Especially the later runs with a good 21fjp22a rare earth crt. Great job.

Thats awesome! I believe an easy fix isnt as gradifying as one you got to chase down and dig in to fix. You tend to appreciate the set more afterwards, learn a little bit and have a sense of accomplishment when your done. In your case the aggravation was well worth it as you now have a great playing set. Good job and enjoy!

Thanks guys, you know im suprised to find such rich contrast in this crt, it's only a 21fjp22 not an "a" rare earth crt as far as I can tell. And judging by the cataract that built up on it before removal, I think its original, the crt has no paper tags glued to it, the only thing it has is a white label 1/2"high 1.5"long that says 21FJP22 . Looks really good when I play HALO on it from the XBOX... lol.

My B&K 465 got damaged in shipping, the needle got bugered up from the faceplate coming off and bouncing around the box, it's finicky when adjusting g2 out of cut off. and at the 5-8 heater range, cranked the heater voltage up, it wont reach 6.3. Think ill file a claim and get another tester. I need it for my B&W Maggie combo anyway.

I hope the 465 was insured. I've heard of a lot of buyers paying for insurance but the seller still does not add it and they keep the extra money. When you get another tester; may I recommend something like a B&K 467, 470, 480, or 490. The 470 and 480 have a single meter. The 467 and 490 have three seperate meters. My first tester was a 465; and, they were not bad testers for their day. The main problem I have with them is with the harsh rejuvenate function and the fact that it won't test newer inline tubes without adapter modifications. The newer B&K's have a better rejuventate function and adapters are available for all the older B&W tubes through modern CRT's. I have rejuved several B&W tubes with the 465. Some held and some didn't. I didn't have near the luck with color tubes. I've rejuved many types of tubes with my 480 with mostly good results. Those newer B&K's cost several hundred $$ or more when new; but, can often be found on ebay for a very reasonable price. There's not much demand for CRT testers anymore since everything modern is either "throw away" or uses some other type of display other than a CRT. The shop here in town does not own a CRT tester. He borrows mine when he wants to test one. I think the last time he borrowed it was about 3 years ago.
