My new Philco

Here's my latest addition to the collection.

I paid an obscene amount of money for it but I've been really good lately about not buying anything and this is the first set that has really caught my eye in a long time.

At least two other people wanted it really bad too so I don't feel so awful

I drove the 150 miles round trip this afternoon and picked it up.

This set uses an oddball CRT, there is an article on this very model over at http://www.radiolaguy.com

I suspect the CRT will be bad, the oddballs usually are and there's gotta be a reason they only used it in this one model??

Eric

I saw that auction a few days ago. The set looks almost like it's all CRT from the front (but with style). Definately an eye-grabber, and really clean looking too! Cool score, Eric!

Great set Eric! I have the mahogany version, never powered it up. Even have the owners quick ref guide that came tied to the knob. If I get a chance I will photo copy it for you if you want. Sorry 'bout the bad photo, it is packed away right now so I can't do better. Marlin

Hi Marlin!

Just how "packed away" is your set ?

The reason I ask is I may need a high res photo of the two large knobs.

Dave at partstoomany may have them but needs a good photo to match them up.

Even before I bought this thing I was resigned to the idea that the picture tube was probably bad...
Well maybe not! I recapped the horizontal osc. tacked a filter cap across the old one and got high voltage.
Plugged in the CRT and viola! what you see below

Charlie, actually a friend found it at a garage sale here in the St. Louis area. Of course I had to pay him much more than he paid for it. But there was a bonus, along with it came one of the RCA 7" magnetic def crts used in the 621, so I did not mind too much!

Eric, I can get to the front no prob, just hard to get a shot of the side. I will see what I can do about photos.

"Neoscope"

Over at www.tvhistory.tv there is a Philco brochure that shows this series of sets.

Look in the lower right corner, the 1207 is slightly cropped, they claim it the "lowest cost in TV history" well I don't know about that, maybe the lowest priced in it's class at the time?
