Early RCA Victor AM portable - 8 transistors

Picked this up today at local Goodwill for 99 cents.

Love the look of this radio.

It's a RCA Victor, Globe Trotter, 8 transistor, model 3-RG-81. Takes 4 C batteries.

It's in great shape, but so far I can't get any sound out of it. I think the battery contacts need cleaning or one is not making contact. I'll tinker with it.

Anybody familiar with this radio ?? Early 60's ?

Cleaned up one of the battery contacts and it works great.

Reception is excellent, almost no static as you tune between stations and no blending of two stations close on the dial.

Antenna is inside. The silver knob in front is the tuner dial, and the volume control is on the left side - kind of the opposite of more modern portables.

Sounds great, puts out a lot of volume.

It's mid-sixties vintage. Probably one of the last of the Globetrotter series.

When I was growing as a kid in the late 60s, my mother had this radio so that she could listen to the local radio station's music. The radio had a black leather carrying case with a small black leather strap. I can remember playing the radio as I put plastic models together. .......those were the days.

It does have the Civil Defense markings (two small triangles), so it would
be no newer than 1965, IIRC. Regards.

P.S.: the link below gives 1953-1963 as the time frame for these little triangles.
