Sharp GF-575 APSS how to use it?

Hello I have just got a Sharp GF-575, what a brilliant machine , I have worked out how to use the functions, but one thing i cannot workout is the APSS, the APLD works but how do i use the APSS

So many acronyms! I have a Sharp cassette deck with an "APSS". You push the APSS button and the FF together at the same time, or the APSS and the REW buttons together. Then it goes either to the start of the next song, or the beginning of the current song (it looks for silent passages on the tape)

My Sharp video recorder had APLD, which finds points on the tape where you pressed 'pause' during the recording. It did that by recording a very low frequency 'rumble' on the linear audio track - inaudible on a TV set, but cerrainly audible when used with an amp & good speakers.

Hello thanks for that, but I too have an old Sharp R/C with APSS and yes it works like that on the old one.
But this machine has both search systems, the APSS button is marked "Set Pause" and there is a yellow LED with "pause" written under it.
But cannot work out how to use it

I have that boombox in both silver-fronted and black-fronted versions. Don't know which I like better; maybe the black (like yours).

APSS stands for "Automatic Program Search System". It scans the tape looking for blank/silent spaces between songs; when in use, it will scan ahead to the next pause and start playing the next song automatically.

To work properly, the space between the songs should be 4 seconds or longer; less than that, and the APSS may think it is just a pause within a single song, and skip it. Similarly, if there is a pause longer than 4 seconds within a song, the APSS will mistake that for the transition to a new song.

APLD stands for "Automatic Program Locate Device". It works on the same principle as APSS; the difference is that you can set it to skip ahead a specified number of songs to play a particular song on the tape, whereas APSS only advances to the NEXT song.

On many (but not all) of the Sharp boxes with these functions, pretty-colored indicator light "logos" automatically light up
whenever these functions are actually in operation.
