The animation reminds me of Rocky and Bullwinkle and maybe Underdog.

It definetly makes the most of the "upa" style of limited animation,I know JohnHubley was involved in many 1950's animated commercials,possibly this is one of his.

The animation house that did Jay Wards Rocky & Bullwinkle and TTV's "Underdog" and Tennesse Tuxedo" was Gamma productions and I know they did do a few tv commercials but this doesn't "feel" like their work.

Gamma also did some of the later episodes of "King Leonardo",the earlier being done by "tv spots" who likewise did tv commercials.

I think the last animation they did was for Total Televisions "The Beagles" featuring two singing dogs Tubby & Stringer who sounded like Dean Martin & Jerry Lewis but sang Beatle-esque.

Ironic that the commercial itself has only limited color, unless that is because of its age/condition. But, if you are advertising color to a B&W audience, they would not see it anyway. In fact, this sort of conundrum always amused me in later years... I would see a commercial for a nice color TV set, with a glowing description of the set's features and picture quality, then they would show the set's screen in action. Umm, it looks exactly as good as the TV I already have, because it is ON the TV I already have!

Do you suppose this commercial is from the roundie era, even though it does not show one?

I think there was a standup comedian that joked about that same thing too!

The commercial appears to be from the late 50's or early 60's,I wish I knew the precise date too.
I think the colors are so dull because the film has deteriorated over the years.

It does say "new vista" color tv,so that may be a clue as to the general timeframe.

I remember SEEING this gem on when it was current...Seems like they ran it a lot on Disney's "Wonderful World of Color"...I'm thinkin' 1964-66, thereabouts...They carefully avoided using a REAL TV, makes me think it ran during both the "Roundie" era, & the "Rectangular" one, too...Notice how they used the kid in it, too, kids whining for a color set like their best friend had undoubtedly sold a few...

Didn't Rca start using the term "New Vista" around 1962-63? I have an Rca portable stereo record player that says "New Vista" High Fidelity and if I remember correctly is was dated 1963.

I wish they still made commercials like this one,the down side is you get the song stuck in you head for weeks after!

George- Coulda been. I was 7 in '64, they might have used this 'un back as far as '62.

By the way,I know this is kind of off topic,but what year is your Lincoln convertible?

I had read they had a problem with the early models where if all four doors were opened at once the body sagged!

Re:the commercial,maybe one of the RCA gurus will supply the answer for us!

I had also tried to find some vintage predicta commercials on YouTube but had no luck.

David Weddingtons site has a couple low resolution examples you can watch for free (he sells a DVD of them)

The songs are really cool especially for the predicta tandem and the philco line of appliances!

Funny isn't it?,all the commercials that make me want to buy the item are for things that haven't been made in 50+ years!

According to further research online RCA used the term "new vista" from 1961-1972

"New Vista" being a play on the word "Nuvistor" a new tuner tube developed by Rca.

My Lincoln is a '67, last of the breed. Yeah, they had all sorts of "Fun" w/'em when they first came out-I don't remember the body sagging if all 4 doors were opened, but they WOULD get "sprung" if parked on uneven ground. They also had tuning weights placed in the ends of the fenders to cancel out harmonic distortion at certain speeds. They were cars unto themselves-the only other Ford product to share parts was the 1958-66 T-Bird, & not even very many there. The bad thing about the unibody Lincolns was their tendency to collapse if hit hard in the rear.

The animation could be Terrytoons, too. I tend to agree with the UPA animation, though.
