GE 46GW948 Rear Projection Questions
Hi All,
My son saw this tv at a yard sale across the street and just had to have it. I new the guy selling it and he had told me that the picture was both hazzy and bright on day scenes and really dark on night scenes, sorry if the description is vague. Anyways, I traded it straight across for a Sony tv to please my son. I hooked it up and saw what he was saying, can't see night scenes and looks like you are looking through scratched glasses on daytime scenes. I went through the service menu and the convergence adjustments in the service menu, the convergence will adjust. The problem that I can see in the convergence is the Blue, both horizontal and vertical. The convergence lines on blue are wide and fuzzy, not sharp like the red. While in the service mode, the green adjustment grid cannot be adjusted that well. What I mean is it is dished inwards on all 4 sides. I can take some pics of all this if that will help. I have the picture adjusted the best I can get it so my son has his tv for after school, for the time being. Both the Bias and Drive adjustments for the 3 colors to get this still bad picture are set at their maximum setting. Now for the question: Should I start this repair by replacing all the transistors on the convergence boards? I think there were something like 10 transistors in each color. What else should I check? Thank you! |
