Set at an upcoming estate sale....what is it?
Appears to me to be an early 80s Zenith. What's really interesting about this particular set is that it appears to be a 19" table model with a WOOD case. Can't recall seeing one before. Save the pic and zoom in on it, and you'll see what I'm talking about. At a first glance, it's a regular 80s set.
Anything rare and great here?

Zenith SM1971P Top of line 19" that year.
Spacephone, timer, comb filter, color sentry. Uses the gold hand unit with phone keys. I bought one new. Will give a fantastic pix. It is a 9-160 set. Mine survived into the 2000's then I lost track of it. 73 Zeno

BTW looks like a Zenith / Sony beta split VCR beside it. Fantastic
with the camera, as good as any. 73 Zeno

Sams says that's a 1981. I may just have to go buy that set

Good call, it's pretty sweet. Doesn't take over a room either.

I'd grab everything that's with the set, too

I was given one by Arcanine a few months ago. I need to get back to trying to fix it...I was in the process of trying to swap the 9-160 board.

It's one of the best sets I own. Retail was $549.00 when new, so it was the best 19" set they made in 81. My 9-160 board sassed a few weeks ago (after YEARS of heavy use with no problems)
Ran the set to Walter Beers and he re-capped the board for me. Zeno is dead on with the remote it uses. I've got the original with mine, but a few keys stick, so I bought a spare a few years ago. The spare uses that stupid J battery tho. Original is a 9V. Also.. this set is one of Zenith's first with OSD (time and channel) It doesn't have sleep mode, but you CAN set it like an alarm with an auto on / auto off feature. FYI... it weighs a ton for a 19" set..... |

I have one of those gold hand units. Got it new in the box and used it with a later model Zenith console for a bit. I recently found out there's a replacement hand unit made by PhilipsECG, the RT 111. There's a NOS unit on eBay right now. Unusual for sure.

Came home with it for a quite modest sum
![]() The antenna package has never even been opened. Only thing it's missing is the cover for the remote battery....

What's this RT 111 replacement remote? Is it an aftermarket replacement?

http://www.ebay.com/itm/201508032457 Tim, check the remote/manual switch at the TV, it might be dirty. Edit: or turned off. Didn't see Andy's post before. I was still on the first page and used Quick Reply. Quick and dirty infrared remote test: aim it at yourself and watch the emitter(s) through a digital camera. hopefully it works. Take a screen shot when you get it hooked up.
If you have a land-line, it's fun to call people on! |
