HD Radio Glitch
In Seattle, HD radios in 2016 Mazdas are mysteriously locking onto KUOW (94.9 FM) and staying there...nobody has found the cause. Has a similar problem occurred in other cities/automobiles that anybody here is aware of?

You, know with all these broadcasting formats switching to digital it was only a matter of time till someone hacked it.
Barring that it was only a matter of time till a major software fail occurred.

My '14 Mazada's infotainment system had all sorts of dumb issues that never got solved. Forget the standard lockups, it had this knack for sometimes playing music at the wrong speed (Just SLIGHTLY slower than normal, 0with corresponsing pitch change). The GPS literally wouldn't route me around Memphis, telling me it couldn't find routes between places within a 2 block drive. It'd forget my phone. It'd sometimes just totally go bonkers with the GPS. Every time I crossed the George Washington Bridge, it'd drop any call I had...
I wouldn't be surprised if someone is poking around inside the firmware to see what they can do to an HD Radio. And so that other stations can figure out the same neat trick.. |

You know half of this chip shortage auto industry nonsense would go away if they just eliminated all computer chips except the ECU. None of the body computers (except maybe the guage cluster and that could be analog) are necessary. The windows and lights and HVAC could be controlled by switches and relays, the "infotainment system" could be swapped for a simple double DIN AM/FM radio with a line in that anyone could swap for a better unit aftermarket, and just add a dash mount for your phone so it can navigate...My 02 suburban and 78 Lincoln are like that and they don't break or software glitch or have chip shortages.

I bought a new Silverado 3 yrs ago. Seems every time I get in I find
another switch. I would have paid MORE not to have all this crap. The best cars & trucks went away in the 90's. Never had this crap in the olden days. If you needed a fuel pump it was $35 - $50 bucks to get it changed. Now its a fist full of C-notes.... I could rant & piss and moan on the subject but I will bow out instead. 73 Zeno ![]() LFOD ! |
