Time to ring in the new year..on our OLD tv sets!!

It's time again. Time for us tv collectors to "ring out the old and in the new" on our old tv's.

THIS year--I plan to "see the ball drop" on my GE model 810 1949 10" BW set. I WILL get some pix's for all of you. The picture is PLENTY bright enough and should show up nicely!! it is in the basement, where it is nice, dry and kept out of the elements, in a heated(in the winter, cooled in the summer) space.

Sounds like a capital idea!!!! Right now, my 1982 Zenith color set is acting up with red and red lines in the screen, I'm really jonesin' for a high voltage module for it. However, I'll fire up my 1966? Sony (it looks close to the Sony TV on the Beatles' "Sgt. Pepper" album) B&W that I use in my room (since the 19 inch color Zenith from 1998 I had is doing double duty as the main set). I'll capture some pics on my B&W set.

If you want a real trip, try playing Playstation on a B&W set, it is kind of interesting.

And here we are....

From my ge 810 in the basement. Some pictures don't look good, but the picture WAS pretty good on the old, little set!!

The ball dropping was taken in the dark. it didn't come out so well, b ut can be seen.

The others I took right from the screen.

I have a tradition to turn on my Kaye-Halbert 253 for awhile during the Rose Parade... Done it every year since I got it when I was 10.

I have it on rabbit ears this time, so the picture is terrible. But it still works, even though it's not recapped. In fact, last time I repaired it was in the 80s. It has a myriad of small problems, but I probably will leave it alone for now.

See the Early Color TV threads for other New Years photos!!!!!

No Rose Parade pics here, but we had friends over today and watched "It's a Wonderful Life" on my daily driver. I still get a kick out of the fact that some of them simply refuse to believe that they're watching video on a real forties vintage TV!

Hey Polaraman!

It's an RCA 8-TK-21. I took it, kinda reluctantly, as part of a "package deal" with a 721 which was the one I really wanted. Turns out this one looked nice enough in the living room I was "allowed" to keep it there!

The TRK is still in the cabinet shop. That guy is slower than me! Thanks for the reminder; I'm going to go poke at him. Now that I've got two picture tubes for it (a real one and one of those ersatz 12AP4s to use as the daily driver, both thanks to Steve and others) 2007 is the right time to get that 65 year old retired set up and running again.

Happy New Year,
--Dave

Here's a few photos I shot just after the ball dropped. I never get tired of this set and just started watching the Sgt. Bilko DVD collection on it.
Happy new Year!
