Old photos of TV's

I have this TV now. It is exactly the same model that I had as a teenager. I bought it in working condition. It is unrestored so it should be somewhat easy to make it good. Oh yeah, I actually have an NOS 16TP4 CRT for it. That is the icing on the cake...

And I had a copy of this TV when I was a teenager, as well. Used to be my father's mother's TV she had in her apartment in NYC, back in the 50's. We inherited it when she checked out in 1960, and my father tossed it in the mid 70's. Got another one off the bay a few years ago. The door on hers fell off, and never had it for the one I have now.

Replacing all the wax caps should be all you'll need to do. Assuming the circuits in yours and mine are similar, be sure to use a temperature stable cap in the horiz oscillator, the 0.01 cap, parallel with a 22K resistor, mounted across the horiz phase coil, between the 6SN7 and the 6BQ6 Horiz output. Actually, as it has a 22K resistor in parallel, you probably could get away with just leaving it in (the 22K resistor should swamp any cap leakages). I first used a ceramic cap in my TV there, but the horiz hold was too drifty. Then used a orange drop type, and that fixed that.

Congratulations! My interest in old TV's and radio's centers on the ones we had when I was a kid, so I understand how you feel. It looks like it's in great shape.

wa2ise, I see that yours uses a 16CP4. What's the difference between it and the 16TP4? I couldn't find any data on the 16CP4.

You mean 14CP4, yes? It uses an ion trap, and of course it's a smaller CRT.

I think that both of these sets were out at the same time. 14" and 16". Kinda neat...

Thanks for the heads up. I truly have an advantage because the set actually works and it has not been restored. It will be the next item on the bench. I should document a step by step restoration. Surely some of us could benefit from it...

The first picture was taken about 1961. This is a picture of my aunt, with a cool, but unidentified TV in the background.
The second was taken some time in the mid 1970s, and another unidentified TV. Too bad the control panel isn't in the picture. (And now we have that very same fake Christmas tree lol)



There's also some pictures from when I was a kid, of the TV in the background, but I couldn't find them. once I find them, I'll post them. One shows me and my cousin as toddlers, watching Jeopardy on an early '80s Japanese-looking 19" TV with the style of tuner with all the little individual push-buttons for each channel. Another one is, if I can remember correctly, my aunt giving me a birthday present in the early '90s, and in the background is our brand new Electrohome 19 incher. I'm not sure if those pictures are old enough for this forum though.

My ADMIRAL 26R12 has had all of its capacitors replaced now. It plays well. I am in the process of cleaning the chassis and then I will put in the NOS RCA 16TP4 CRT. Can't wait to see the new picture. The original 16RP4 has very low emission. Below is a shot of the chassis after the caps are replaced. All three electrolytics have been re-stuffed to retain originality.

I agree. But that NOS CRT is just beggin for a chance to show its stuff... Pix when the thing is up and running...
