Locktals, midboys, whatever notwithstanding...I still think it's Purdy, & methinks I could find a place for it at the Casa De Sandy w/o undue trouble...

Yep, those are the original caps.
My 49-1280 used them too. |

banderson, what happened to that vertical output transformer/choke looking thing in the upper right hand corner of the photo of your Philco? It looks so burned, or is that rust?

Sure enough. That one's missing the stretcher bar across the bottom. It's hard to see because of photo glare, but mine also has a slide-out panel covering the lower row of controls. A brass plate in the middle says Westinghouse. Apparently, the panel had two knobs or buttons with shafts that slid into holes in the cabinet body. If you look closely at the photo of the other cabinet, you can just see those two little holes.

Oops - I forgot to congratulate you on scoring an awesome set
That's a really distinctive cabinet. I bet most folks would never think there's a TV hiding inside.Just rust I think. This is the dirtiest set I've ever come across. Everything was covered in a a layer of dirt and pine needles, then fine black soot, then rust. Amazingly, I thing it's sound electrically. I'll fine out soon enough when I start restoring it in earnest. Last edited by bandersen; 01-22-2010 at 06:05 PM. |

Dangdest thing, I don't recall ever having to replace a loctal tube. They seemed virtually bulletproof. Of course I never ran into a TV with loctals either, it was always just radios that had 'em. Bill(oc)
