Aren't large laser projection systems essentially mechanical TVs?

I'm thinking that the bearings for the scanning mirrors (a disk woud be impossible, I think) would require the classified technology developed for missile guidance gyros - and you'd better not try to move the thing while it was running!

This little kit from England is a fun science-fair type modern kit to show the results of mechanical scanning.

http://www.mindsetsonline.co.uk/prod...oducts_id=1376

It is all plastic with a PC board with all the modern components and LED for backlight on the window. It has an EPROM image on-board but you can connect a CD player and download other images to play from the CD.

It will get you close for a start until a Baird Televisor shows up at the Goodwill. Peter Yanczer used to have a complete camera/receiver kit with modern components and the cabinets (you assemble) but not sure if he still sells them.

Wow - I like the computer-animated assembly instructions too.
