Kenmore was the appliance brand for Sears; but, I've never seen the name used on any of their electronics. Up until the early '70's, they used the Silvertone brand on their electronics. From the early '70's until the early-to-mid '80's, their electronics were branded "Sears". In the early '80's, they used the SR1000 and SR2000 brands. By the mid '80's, they used the LXI brand. In the early '90's, they pretty much dropped their house branded electronics and started selling various other brands. The set here falls in the era where it could be branded as Sears, SR2000, or LXI.

Are those set more desirable thant the Hitachi set from the same era?

We didn't work on many Hitachi sets when I was with Sears during the time of these console sets. Nearly all consoles were Sanyo, and some portables were Hitachi. Many portables built by Sanyo had the soft-touch buttons on the front that changed channels by just brushing a finger over the sensor button. Interesting design.

Towards the end of the decade, Sanyos were using an IC in the power supply that was owned by Sears. Suddenly, it was no longer available around 1984, and I trashed so many of these sets. Sears stopped supplying this IC for parts services around this time. Made you buy another set.

Would that IC in the power supply be a high failure part? If I get the set I want to be able to repair it so it can have it as long as possible.

This soft touch button sounds like my Sony CDP-101's control buttons. They don't click but only just touching them causes a reactions.

Curtis-Mathes had a setup like that around the same time. It seemed like it fired a neon lamp and that changed the channel.

i cant really see the tuner that well but it looks like an early cable ready set.might be from 1978-1980 era with a delta gun crt.if so,could be a samsung built set.saw a couple back in the day.very good picture and well built.seems like the very last delta gun sets had digital tuners.rca,sylvania,magnavox,etc.love to have a sylvania superset e-48 with a digital tuner

Maybe it's me but I was looking back to the picture of the TV , and it seems to me that the picture is a bit weird. I feel as the red is to bright and the rest of the screen seem to be too dark...
Anyone is getting the same fist look feeling?

Well I was right to be suspisious. I went to see the set this morning, and first thing I noticed was that the wood cabinet was not in the best of shape. Then the guy turned it on...oh boy...heavy red smear with somewhat dim picture...so I left empty handed.
Too bad because I liked the style and the guy had the orginal remote(witch is a plus).

There is another early/mis 80's Curthis Mathes up in the classified right now,that I was interested in , but after reading the bad rep that the Curthis Mathes have around here I'm not even sure that i'll bother to even check it out.

go check out that Curtis Mathes set, it may suprise you
had 3 of them, now down to 2 since i gave a console set away
all 3 of mine were/are NEC sets and all work fine

Yes I've seen your set, they are great looking! I was just a bit worried about the quality and longevity of the set. But if you say that they are decent sets, I'll go check it out.
